Department of Health officials embark on Listeriosis outbreak Community Engagement
Following the outbreak of Listeriosis in 2017, the Risk Communication and Community engagement arm of the Incident Management Team(IMT) based at National Institute for Communicable Diseases(NICD) consisting of Department of Health Communication team, Health promotion together with WHO Health promotion units went on a educational and information blitz at Health institutions in Gauteng province.
The team visited the Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg, Kalafong and Steve Biko hospitals in Tshwane conducting health talks and handing out Listeriosis educational material. The targeted groups included patients collecting medication at hospital pharmacies, maternity wards, and visitors. The team also engaged on question and answers sessions were the targeted groups were given chance to ask questions about Listeriosis.
Similar Community Engagements will be conducted in all provinces.
